Stanleybet calls for Italy’s “Big 4” to tackle illegal gambling
May 07, 2009
Stanleybet's Managing Director John Whittaker has encouraged the heads of Italy's "big 4" betting companies - Intralot, Lottomatica, SISAL and SNAI - to tackle the thousands of illegal betting operations which still exist in the country.
Despite Italy's opening of the betting market, there are still many illegal betting shops which do not own the concessions required by law to operate legally. Stanleybet can operate legally in Italy thanks to the positive outcomes of the Gambelli and Placanica cases, which determined that the company's operations are in line with European law.
However, John Whittaker explained that Stanleybet's position in Italy is "unique" and there are "clandestine chains operating through thousands of outlets... claiming "we are like Stanley" growing their CTDs using [Stanley's] legitimacy to confuse judges and get incorrect positive rulings."
According to GamblingCompliance, Stanleybet are recruiting lawyers to attack those operators who are using the company's defence although it does not apply to them.
